Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great design for shorties. Beware tall babies! I think you should offer dimensions for the neck and body length of this product. While my son is within the weight requirement to use this pfd he is too tall to fit it comfortably. I imported this from Canada specifically because of its design and I can't use it. I'm not sure what to do at this point.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No complaints I was very nervous that my 11 month old would whine about wearing a lifejacket all day while boating but she never complained about it once.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for infants! Relatively comfortable for my 5 month old. The strap that goes between the legs is stretchy and the floaties behind the head will keep baby's head elevated

Is this vest suitable if the baby is over 30lbs if the baby still needs this protection of having the device in the front and not the back? the baby would still not be able to turn himself upward if had to move to the next size vest is my concern...

Asked by: meech
If the child is over 30 lbs., then you should step up to the "Child" size range which supports a user from 30 to 50 lbs. By USCG definition, a Type II vest is "intended to turn some unconscious persons from a face-down position in the water to a position where the wearer's respiration is not impeded." A Type I "has the greatest required inherent buoyancy and turns most unconscious persons in the water from a face-down position to a vertical and slightly backward position, therefore, greatly increasing one's chance of survival." Type III vests are "intended to support a conscious person in the water in an upright position. This type of device is not required to turn an unconscious person in the water from a face-down position to a position where the wearer's respiration is not impeded." You will want to look around for a Type I or Type II vest in "Child" size. Maybe a Type I due to the greater ability to turn a child "face-up" versus a Type II which will turn 'some' children to a "face-up" position depending on how confident the child is in the water. A Type I is often selected for rougher waters that may have delayed recovery while a Type II for calmer waters and fast recovery. In a Type I and II "Child" size, the vests usually have flotation on the back collar to keep the head supported out of the water along with a crotch strap to prevent riding of the vest like an "Infant" type vest. A Type II often does not have floatation in the back but a Type I will for the greater buoyancy. Unfortunately, at the moment our "Child" PFDs are in the Type III format so you will have to search around for a model that will fit your needs.

I have a very slim 3 year old who weighs 22lbs. She is approximately 36in tall. Is the crotch/torso length of this jacket adjustable? If so, what is the largest measure from 'top of child's shoulder to seat base' length that the jacket adjusts to?

Asked by: MamaBear
The crotch strap itself does not have an adjustment on it. There is an adjustable strap at the collar that will allow for a little bit of vertical give, but not much. The vest length is 26".

I read that this product is good for children up to 30lbs. At what weight would be okay to start using the product? How little of a baby would be safe, and fit well, in this vest?

Asked by: Parsionie
Our less than 30 lb. infant vests are designed to fit all infants. However, because there is such a wide range of shapes and sizes of infants, it is always best to try the vest on the child, confirm that it is comfortable and adjusts correctly. As far as when it is alright to start using the vest, that would be at the parents discretion and if on watercraft, state law would require the use of one at all times.

Will this product turn the baby onto his back and keep him from rolling over onto his side or front?

Asked by: Will
The baby safe product is rated as a Type II PFD, which is our near-shore buoyant vest. It is intended for children up to 30 lbs. and designed to turn most unconscious wearers face-up in the water. It features foam panels in the front of the vest and none in the back to accomplish this.
