Brand Old Town
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good Canoe - Arrived damaged There was a mixup with the freight company used by Old Town, YRC Freight, and they could NOT deliver the canoe to my home. This was AFTER it had been sent out by Old Town. I had to drive over 2 hours and pick it up myself. Once home and unwrapped, I discovered it was damaged. The bow had a large crease in it that resembled damage from a forklift. The chair assembly was completely loose in the bottom and had been bouncing around during shipment, causing scratches to the aluminum seat frame and inside of the canoe. Upon contacting Old Town customer service, their initial response was that the damage was merely cosmetic and would not interfere with the operation of the canoe. After further negotiation, Old Town ended up giving me a 10% credit, life vest, & repair goop to cover the damage and compensate me for shipping costs for having to pick it up myself. I wasn't completely satisfied at this point but did not want to deal with having the canoe sent back and waiting for a replacement. So, I am dealing with the eyesore of a damaged bow. Overall, I feel that the canoe is well made and it performs well. The only production issue is how the seat fits in the brackets. There is a lot of play between the seat frame and u-shaped receiver that holds it on all four corners. The seat will work its way out of the bracket and fall down to the bottom of the canoe during use, which can be very annoying. I made my own spacers to install at all four points and this has taken care of the problem for now.
