Additional Information
Features
The HOOK series combines the benefits of CHIRP sonar with built-in Broadband and DownScan Imaging fishfinder technologies to give you a clear and complete view of the underwater environment beneath your boat. Using the Lowrance HDI Skimmer transducer, these CHIRP sonars provide the capabilities to produce medium and high CHIRP sonar ranges. With these CHIRP sonar advantages, the HOOK series can more easily distinguish between baitfish and game fish targets, provide better target separation at greater depths, and mark fish clearly at faster boat speeds.
The HOOK-7 CHIRP DSI comes with DownScan Imaging that provides easy-to-understand, picture-like views of structure and bottom detail, as well as selectable, single-frequency Broadband Sounder capability. With the exclusive Lowrance DownScan Overlay feature, boaters can layer DownScan Imaging views onto CHIRP sonar or Broadband Sounder displays for a stunning presentation that separates and clearly exposes fish targets from surrounding structure. 83/200 kHz Broadband Sounder plus 455/800 kHz DownScan Imaging for depths to 1,000' (300' DSI).
This fishfinder chartplotter combo model comes with a highly accurate built-in GPS and includes C-MAP charts with US inland lakes and coastal details and a microSD card slot for map upgrades. You can also use your Insight Genesis custom maps created from your own sonar logs. This fishfinder chartplotter offers TrackBack for accessing multiple pages of sonar history, Advanced Signal Processing, and a convenient page selector menu with quick access to all features using one-thumb operation. The multi-window display lets you quickly choose from pre-set page layouts, including a three-panel view. NMEA 0183 connectivity. 500W RMS.

Worst Purchase Ever
First let me state I knew before I bought this unit, that is was a rebranded Elite series. The web is full of problems with the Elite series, I had all the faith in Lowrance that they fixed the problems and were reintroducing it as the Hook series.
So with that said I’ll start, this unit is a total disappointment, as was the technical support I received.
Chart Plotter / Navionics combination
The processor in the Hook is too slow to keep up with the Navionics data, once the boat exceeds 25mph the chart display turns white or half white
Zooming slow, -/+ zooming takes 2 -3 seconds per zoom change.
Here is a list of what I was told by 1st level Tech Support
TECH - I installed a HD Navionics card in a non-HD unit
REPLY - it was the card that came with the unit, Navionics+
TECH - My transducer was not installed correctly
REPLY - Ah what does a sonar transduce have to do with a GPS unit, the sonar was reading fine at 50mph +
TECH - I needed to solder all connections and use a separate battery just for the electronics
REPLY - Which I did, no change
TECH - I needed to zoom out to 1 mile range on the chart
REPLY - This makes the chart useless but I did it, same problem
TECH - I needed to dis-able the Navionics card and use the Lowrance base maps
REPLY - This did allow the chart screen to keep up with the boat over 50 mph, the problem is the base maps are useless and incorrect. I have one track showing the boat going across dry land.
Top Level Senior Tech Support
This person was knowledgeable on the unit and after a long talk, basically admitted that the unit could not process the data from the Navionics card fast enough.
Other issues to note
Sonar Logs
Doing reach on the unit you are given the impression that the Hook has the ability to make sonar logs and upload them to Navionics to update the contour maps
…..does not work for the Hook, you get the following message from Navionics
…….” Unfortunately, your log is recorded with a Lowrance or Simrad proprietary format: at this time, Lowrance & Simrad can view SonarChart™, but they do not grant permission for logs recorded in their proprietary format to be used by Navionics for improving SonarChart™.”
Down View Imaging
Iffy at best, very dull, the images are not sharp, almost burring. I did a lot of playing with this and got it usable.
Sonar View
Ok and usable expected a little better but again ok.
Summary
This unit is useless for boats that exceed 25mph, it may be fine for kayaks, canoes or small boats. I gave 2 stars only because the sonar worked ok.
I have sold the unit and purchased a Garmin Echomap 73sv Chirp, this is an awesome unit. I know this is a higher end unit then the Hook but Lowrance offered no solution to my problems and would not consider making any kind of upgrade offer. I have been tournament fishing for 30 + years and have always had Lowrance Electronics (admittedly not always the top end stuff but still Lowrance) but they have lost a customer for life.
I’m assuming Edwin Evers and the other Lowrance Pros get better attention from tech support then I did.

Will this unit work with a tripleshot transducer?
Thank you for your inquiry. The Hook-7 Chirp DSI unit is not compatible with the TripleShot transducer. This unit only has the capability of working with the HDI transducer, that offers downscan and traditional sonar. We hope this information is helpful.

What transducer does this come with? Is it the HDI Skimmer or one of lesser value?
Skimmer transducer.

What is the GPS Speed in this unit (10 GHz?) and does it report depth while underway (up to 40 mph) in water less than 25' deep?
Thank you for your question.
10hz antenna.
Will read bottom in shallow water at the speed you are stating as long as the product is installed properly. Improper installation behind a strake or chine, or too high on the transom and the product may not achieve desired performance.
