Features
The HOOK series combines the benefits of CHIRP sonar with built-in Broadband and DownScan Imaging fishfinder technologies to give you a clear and complete view of the underwater environment beneath your boat. Using the Lowrance HDI Skimmer transducer, these CHIRP sonars provide the capabilities to produce medium and high CHIRP sonar ranges. With these CHIRP sonar advantages, the HOOK series can more easily distinguish between baitfish and game fish targets, provide better target separation at greater depths, and mark fish clearly at faster boat speeds.
The HOOK-5x CHIRP DSI comes with DownScan Imaging that provides easy-to-understand, picture-like views of structure and bottom detail, as well as selectable, single-frequency Broadband Sounder capability. With the exclusive Lowrance DownScan Overlay feature, boaters can layer DownScan Imaging views onto CHIRP sonar or Broadband Sounder displays for a stunning presentation that separates and clearly exposes fish targets from surrounding structure. 83/200 kHz Broadband Sounder plus 455/800 kHz DownScan Imaging for depths to 1,000' (300' DSI). 500W RMS.
The HOOK-5x DSI also features Advanced Signal Processing (ASP) which reduces the need to manually adjust settings to see fish, structure, and bottom detail more clearly. TrackBack lets you review recorded sonar history including structure, transitions, or fish targets. The new page selector menu provides quick access to all features using one-thumb operation. The multi-window display lets you quickly choose from pre-set page layouts, including a three-panel view.

Hook 5 no No GPS
If you take the time to read the manual and then sit with the unit and manual you will easily become familiar with the operation system which is very logical. For those of you who gave it a poor rating I suggest you do as I suggested. If you don't understand seek help.
Hook 5 is a great finder, especially in the price range. I use Nav on my iPhone so I opted for the Hook 5 without it. Work well this way for me.

Good unit for the bow of my bass boat
I bought this unit a couple of months ago to replace an older unit on the front of my bass boat. I have been satisfied with the quality of the display and appreciate the down imaging component. The image detail seems very good. The only cons that I have found with the unit is that mounting bracket is a little loose so when I touch the buttons or ride across the water the unit moves a little. Also, it takes a little longer to boot up when I first turn it on versus my other Lowrance units. Both of the cons are minor in my opinion, I would recommend this unit to anyone who is looking for a quality graphic device with down imaging detail at a value price.

Great sonar for the angler on a budget.
I have two of these on my bass boat.one with gps on the console and one without on the bow. Mine are both pre chirp and there great when I'm fishing deep water or navigating around big water like the delta, clear lake,Orville etc.. I even drop to fish and catch them. This is a great unit for the price. I'm looking foward to purchasing one of the new Ti units because I know it can make me fish better. I've always used lowrance since I was 10 now pushing 40. It really chaps me to see people that have a gem and know nothing about how to use it.

do you need a cable adapter to use the transducer and a paddle wheel speed sensor?
You will not need an adapter cable. The speed sensor comes with a Y cable. You will disconnect your transducer from the unit and connect the speed sensor directly to the unit. Then the transducer connects to the Y already on your cable.

Can swap a 2 inch round thru hull for the transom mount thru hull?
Thank you for your question.
We do not swap transducers as our boxes are pre-packed from the mfg. The unit you are looking at does come with a transom mount transducer.
