Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cheap Insurance Putting this on my boat with a second battery. Nothing worse than anticipating a great day on the lake and finding out your fish finder has drained your battery or worse yet, being out on the lake and finding out your stereo has drained your battery. Switching makes sense for safety and for backup.

    They are 3/8" studs.

when would the "all" setting be used?

    Asked by: Jules
You may consider using Both when you're underway to allow the system to charge both batteries (vs only charging whatever battery bank you've selected). This becomes less of an issue when you're able to put your batteries on charge easily and regularly. You may also use this in emergency type scenarios (e.g. you've somehow drained both batteries and 1 won't start the engine, but combined they may have enough power to get you going again). Beware: If you're underway with the battery on 'Both' and then forget to change over to your house battery at anchor/sandbar/etc. you'll drain both batteries and run the risk of depleting both of your batteries. Please note: I've oversimplified a lot of the electrical and 'good-practices' here, but hopefully this gives you an idea for the usage of 'Both'.

I have mine in the "Off" position; however, the radio and depth finder still work. How is that possible, I'm confused. Was installed by a professional mechanic.

    Asked by: redfoxe
The power is still getting to these items because the items are not wired in sequence with the battery selector.

What purpose does the "off" position serve. When in the off position my boat will still start but none of the lights nor the bilge pump will work?

    Asked by: tommybhoy
When the Perko Battery Selector Switch is turned off, it is protecting the batteries for having any power being pulled by light or other items that may have been left on. However, the ignition switch is not pulling any power at all until it is turned on and there is not enough power being pulled to drain the battery.

How often do these switches go bad. I have power in batteries but nothing on boat has power. Believe it's the switch.

    Asked by: Dylanator
The Perko Battery Selector Switch will usually last for several years unless it is exposed to an excessive amount of water.

Could you please instruct me on how to install this switch on a travel trailer. I would like to use it as a cut-off switch for the (2)batteries when the trailer is in storage, while still allowing the batteries to be charged when the switch is off. ( The switch would be installed after the batteries and before the power converter(DC to AC). Thank You.
