Features
For crews working around fuel, vapors, or dust, a standard radio is not an option. The Icom IC-M85UL is an ultra compact intrinsically safe handheld that puts out 5 W on marine channels and is built to MIL-STD 810 to handle hazardous and inhospitable environments on the water and on land.
When used with the BP-292UL battery pack, the radio meets ANSI/TIA-4950-A and ANSI/UL 121201 requirements for Class I, Division 1, Groups C and D, Class II, Division 1, Groups E, F, and G, and Class III, T3C. It is also non-incendive for Class I, Division 2, Groups A, B, C, and D. The HM-184UL speaker microphone is also part of the certified combination.
Beyond marine VHF channels, the radio covers 136 to 174 MHz land mobile frequencies with up to 100 programmable channels at 2 W. Land mobile use requires proper licensing. You get 700 mW audio, AquaQuake speaker draining, VOX for hands-free use, weather channels, dual and tri-watch, favorite channels, and a MOB alarm, Man Down, and lone worker functions. Operating time is about 11 hours with the BP-292UL.
Note: This model does not include the built-in voice scrambler.
