We love this ladder, but....after one outing using it, there are stress indents in the metal where it rests against the metal bar brace. This brace is what gives the ladder the angle. In my opinion the metal in the ladder rail needs to be reinforced at the resting point.

This is not a Overtons quality product. Steps broke on 1st use under the weight of a small person causing injury and lacerations. Bad welding hardly had any weld at all while the top of ladder has no support to prevent it collapsing during use. Aluminum melted with trash in it proving the quality of the aluminum was as poor as the welder who put it together. You should not sell this product from that company until they improve their standards tremendously. You should not buy this product unless you can weld aluminum. Shame. Great idea and design POOR QUALITY
Do not have the option of giving negative stars so it gets 1 just because I love Overtons

Comments about Toonmate Under Deck 4-Step Pontoon Boat Ladder For Flat Front Decks:

using it on a pontoon boat, needed something strong and easy to get to. Wife has problems getting in and out of water, this definatly helps her. Also needed something that was not in the way when I fish using the trolling motor, this worked out perfectly with moving trolling motor over about 6" causing no problem.

I have a Premier pontoon with slightly rounded front. Is there an adapter for this type of front ?

              A:

Item 39288 is another version of this ladder and is made for round front pontoon boats. The only difference in the two is that the flat front version has a plate on the front for mounting and the round front version have plates that mount from underneath. Also note that the round front version, item 39288, will not interfere with your winch hook, if you have one mounted on the front center of the boat, if you choose to center your ladder.

I have a crest pontoon with metal cross members, will this ladder work?

              A:

Yes. This ladder is designed to mount under pontoon boats with standard i-beam cross members and with flat front deck. The majority of the pontoon boats will be flat in the front where the ladder mounts. If your Crest has a rounded front deck you will need item 39288 instead.

So after the last person boards the pontoon, how do you stow the ladder?

              A:

The track for the ladder is flush with the front of the boat, so someone should just be able to lean over the edge and grab the ladder by the step, pull it horzontal, then slide it in.

How does this ladder deploy and retract? Is it on a hinge? Can it be raised and lowered from within the boat or does the operator need to be under the boat?

              A:

There is a pivot point for the lader to pivot down once extended. You must pull straight out from the front of the ladder to operated it. Depending on your setup, this most likely could NOT be done from insdie the boat.

          • Q:

Our pontoon has a full rolled metal underside (no exposed wood). How do I attach the ladder? I can drill the holes, but how would I access the back of the screws to attach the washer and bolts?
Asked on 4/30/2014 by L Horton from Lake Lure, NC

              A:

If your boat is skinned underneath you will have to remove or lower a section of the aluminum skin to mount this ladder. This ladder comes with 4 bolts and lock nuts. Two of the bolts will go on the bow of your boat, on the section you can see in the photo. The other two will go on the end of the section of the ladder bracket that is mounted under the boat. Since the distance between pontoon cross member vary none of the holes are pre-drilled in the ladder bracket.

Another option is to use self tapping machine screws versus the supplied bolts and nuts. If you can locate your cross members that are under the aluminum skin you can drill pilot holes and then use a large screw or lag bolt that is made for metal or aluminum to secure the ladder bracket. It is very important that you use large enough screws and the screws pull tight into the cross member so the ladder will be secure enough to hold the intended weight of the ladder.

Hopefully this information was helpful and please call 1-800-334-6541 if you need additional information.
