We bought this collar for our very actvie and extremely curious puppy. He is now 2 years old and we still use the collar on him. We hardly ever use the actual shock function as he knows what the beep means and responds immediatly to the beep. The collar does not seem to bother him and he even gets excited and sits down right away when we go to put the collar on him. He actually got more weiry of the remote thinking that was what would shock him. We do not use the collar for hunting dogs so I cannot comment on that, but I would imagine it would work well considering I have used it with my dog outside. The furtherest away my dog has been when we used the collar is about 75 yards. I know its rated for further but we generally don't let him wander off that far before commanding him to come back. My dog is 23 pounds and we have never gone above setting 3 on the remote. Well there was one time he was bolting towards the road wanting to go play with another dog on the other side of the road, he was approx. 50 yards away and running full steam. Tried it at 3 and didn't stop him. Bumped it up to 7 and he stopped in his tracks. I feel this is a great training tool, but I have learned (From having the most hyper dog in the world) that good old fashion exercise is the best way to get my dog to behave better. I hope this helps someone out there. I know I was hesitant to buy a shock collar but after having it and realizing that you barely ever shock the dog, I would recommend this to anyone.

Comments about SportDOG WetlandHunter 400 Electronic Dog Collar:
I have two labs on 19 acres. We have a road in the front that has a bit of traffic, the collars work great to keep them out of the road. I don't have to use the stimulation much, they know as soon as the collars are on they have to behave. I started when they were 6 months old. I am not sure how effective it would be on an older dog.
