I got this smoker as a gift and I love it. Gas smokers usually run a little hotter than desired as is the case with this one. I found a great solution for this problem seeing as you can't adjust the gas any lower. I cut a 10" round piece of 1/8" thick wire mesh and placed over the burner. It works great, disapates the heat and really gives me a lower temp. Lot's of room and easy to use!

Out of the box the unit is very easy to assemble. The drawback is I smoke a lot of salmon and the unit on low is around 300 F with a 2" flame. Called the company and they said to use the regulator in the area between high and off. I told them that was not acceptable as the regulator was not meant to be used in that area (not part of the high-med-low part of the regulator). After asking to talk to a supervisor the person on the phone changed his tune and said he would send a new regulator that had a smaller orifice. My low rating is due to the fact that they are selling a smoker and obviously know it puts out way too much heat, they also need to down size the burner. Other then that seems to be a fairly well built unit for the cost.

Comments about Smoke Hollow 38" LP Gas Smoker:
After assembling the smoker, it was obvious the quality was excellent. All the holes aligned properly and everything went together without a problem. So far, I have smoked almonds, a beef brisket, pork tenderloins, and made a batch of beef jerky. All came out excellent. The earlier problems associated with the regulator not adjusting well to lower temperatures have been fixed (at least on my unit), and I had no problem holding 200 deg. F while smoking the almonds.

Cons
- None

Comments about Smoke Hollow 38" LP Gas Smoker:
I bought this smoker back in Mid December as an early Christmas present to myself. So far have done 5 smokes and each has turned out incredible. Temperature guage on the door is fairly accurate as opposed to other reviews. So far extremely reliable and simple to use. Should last for quite some time.

Q:
I am considering this unit, but have a question. Does it have any vents? I think adding vents would help control the temp batter.Asked on 9/4/2009 by Smoking Ken from Show Low, AZ.1 answer

A:
It has 1 vent in the back at the top. Adding vents at the bottom might do just that. The problem with the unit seems to be the burner is too high of BTU's for the unit and the regulator does not cut the gas intake down enough. They are sending me a new regulator because of this.Answered on 10/13/2009 by Bill from Custer, Wa

Is there anyway to adjust the heat. I am having trouble keeping the temp below 250 deg. I have to prop the door open and have the gas valve on low.Asked on 5/3/2009 by Izzy from Harpursville, NY3 answers
A:
I have a different brand LP "fridge style" smoker. That being said, they generally have adjustable vents on the side and top. Close the bottom vent more, and open the top vent more. That should drop your temp.Answered on 5/23/2009 by Curt from MarylandA:
Try covering the bottom grate with foil it works for me. I can hold 225 to 250 deg.Answered on 6/21/2009 by weekend smoker from aderondack park N.Y.A:
