Comments about Shakespeare Ugly Stik Underspin Combo:

Here is my story. I have fished over 100+ times a yr. Freshwater and Ocean fishing. I've used all kinds of rod and reel combos money can buy over the past 24 yrs as a fisherman. From spin, bait casters to fly rods all sizes. But I wanted a combo that fit everyday fishing and I could get good action with. The reel is what got me hooked! Underspin cast is so easy to pick up. And so accurate. I was amazed at the fish I pulled in with this combo. I would luv to see more companys make this under cast reel. It changed my fishing world. And if the combo was made in a 6'0 foot light-med rod it would cast super far(Casts far as is) and land some huge fish. I have landed over 5-7 lb fish on this combo easy. Great fishing idea. :)

Comments about Shakespeare Ugly Stik Underspin Combo:

Bought the 5' version that came with a closed face spinning reel for my kids to use about 5 years ago. It is tough and I have borrowed it from the kids for use on my fishing kayak (really ideal for that). It is really basic but the rod is really tough and the cheap reel works fine and has held up to kid abuse. I like the two part rod version for camping and kayak transport. Only thing missing is a hook keeper. For the price it is significantly higher quality than other similar priced combos I have seen. Action is pretty decent for the money...but of course don't expect it to match the high end stuff. I have very expensive fly fishing gear (my real fishing love) and can't see putting a lot of money into a setup for the kids that most likely is going to take abuse that the manufacturer never
intended ;-( I still remember the very first time my son used it...he was so excited he forgot to make sure the two piece rod was snugged together...so his first cast the rod tip went flying in the river...luckily the line held and we were able to retrieve it. At that point I breathed a sigh of relief ...that I hadn't loaned him one of my expensive rods...and the same thing happened...because you know that if THAT had been my rod...the rod tip would have
            been lost ;-)

Brim, Smallmouth Bass, maybe a few Large mouth if they are not on the heavy side.

This is really a panfish setup, brim etc. Not really for larger bass whether they are largemouth or smallmouth.
