Comments about Shakespeare Ugly Stik Steel 10 Spincasting Combo:
Growing up as a kid fishing with my grandfather I remember him telling me that Ugly Stik's were the best rod's out there, and I've never had any reason to doubt that. The reel on this combo is a bit light for my taste, so I upgraded one rod to a heavier Zebco and one to a Pfleuger, both with 30lb SpiderWire and keep both in my trunk all the time. The rods are very durable, sensitive, and all around great rods. I've still got a couple of my grandfather's I use for river fishing. After 40+ years they're still great, and we've reeled in some big cat's on them over the years. My biggest cat that made it in was over 40# and I never doubted the rod's ability to handle it - but I wasn't so sure about the 8lb test line.
In short, never doubt an Ugly Stik.

Comments about Shakespeare Ugly Stik Steel 10 Spincasting Combo:
My boyfriend wanted to try fishing so I got him this for his birthday. Neither of us knew anything about fishing and we figured it out, so this must be the most basic fishing pole out there. It's easy to put together, easy to cast (once you figure out how, ha), and it goes where you want it to. No problems yet. It's pretty flexible but I don't think it can hold too much weight, so it's probably just for smaller fish.
