These are a very popular rod for people who like to canoe and backpack. They retract to a nice size. The only issue I have with them is that they use to be made a lot nicer with ceramic or resin eyes instead of the plain, cheap metal ones they use now. I would like to see Shakespeare go back to making them the old way which was much nicer.

bought two rods for a Colorado vacation with family. Used with ultralight reels with four pound test for my grandchildren to fish for trout while I used my fly rod. They out performed me. Easy to pack. Durable enough to bounce around in the back of an off road jeep without any damage. Limber enough to land nice German browns. Very pleased!!

These rods are great. I have both the 6' rod and the 6'6" rod. The 6' rod is SUPER ULTRA LIGHT and collapses very small. The 6'6" rod is very flexible and just slightly faster action than the shorter rod. But for the price, these are great for the intended purpose. Makes sneaking a rod in the back of the car on family trips a lot easier when you don't have to thread a full-size rod through the entire car.

Comments about Shakespeare Travel Mate Telescopic Spinning Rod, 66":

I've had one of these in every car for over 10 years. Now days there are 2 in every car. The 1st ones (from the late 90s) are a bit flimsy in the tip section, but very strong. The more recent ones have an excellent action. I use the 6.5 foot model for EVERYthing. I liked them better when they were all black, no flashes in the sunlight. They do look nicer to me with the chrome guides, though.

I've caught 30"+ catfish from the Potomac Rvr, to 8-10 pound Blues in the Chesapeake Bay. (and yes, folks laughed at me when I pulled this out for Blues. :)

Mainly I fish ponds, lakes, and small streams - up to big rivers for trout and bass. When collapsed I can stuff the handle in the back of my pants as I hike to a stream. It never gets in the way and is always rigged and ready to go. No wasted time.

Even if I'm fly fishing, I bring it along cause it's so easy to carry. I've even put a fly line and reel on it several times and it was very doable for 15-25 foot casts.

One did break/splinter (after 7 years) in the 1st section out of the base. A little clear wrapping tape AND it was still usable for over 2 years. I kept the 4" broken area inside the base section. That's durability!

I wish Shakespeare would actually make an 8', 7-8wt fly rod too.

                G R E A T - P R O D U C T ! !

and Excellent Price too, thanks to Gander Mtn with FREE shipping.
