The self-drilling/self-tapping screws would not screw into our stainless steel top frame. They would probably work well in aluminum. Even when we pre-drilled holes, the screw threads stripped out. Bigger pre-drilled holes would not retain the screws (that are integral with the snaps). It would also be helpful to include some brass grommets to help hold down the rain curtain at the bottom. The two velcro straps are not enough.

Comments about Marine Mooring Shademate Rain Shield For Bimini/Hard Tops:

Good quality plastic window with strong grommets and canvass edging. After pre-drilling holes for screws, everything went together easily. I wish they offered a size specifically for pontoons: should be at least 8.5 feet wide and 7 feet long with ties at bottom. Wind and rain will still intrude around edges, but even so, it's a big improvement on the water on those foul days.
It folds up easily for storing, but take care not to crease the clear plastic or it may crack.

Comments about Marine Mooring Shademate Rain Shield For Bimini/Hard Tops:

This product worked for me with some alterations. My pontoon is big, the last fastener on each side did not fit my Bimini top. The straps were too short to fasten to the rails like I wanted them to, so I added a piece of strap and it works fine.

Comments about Marine Mooring Shademate Rain Shield For Bimini/Hard Tops:

As most everyone else said, this item is not wide enough. Most pontoons are 8ft. wide and this item is only 7ft. or less. I still installed it but have not used it in the rain yet. It looks good and installed very easily.

This is about what I need for my pontoon boat but before I would purchase it I need to measure my pontoon area from the front bimini top to the rails to see how much it will actually cover. I looked at this product in several different websites but the size is inconsistent. Overton's describes the size as 5'H x 7'W at top x 8'W at bottom. On the Amazon website it describes the size as 41" x 7' x 7', even though Overton's is the supplier. Can you clear this discrepancy regarding the size please. Thanks.

it could be possible but you would have to modify it on your won, thus voiding the warranty.

I'm a little confused about installation. It sound like it should just strap and snap on to existing top and rails. But a couple on comments talk about how difficult it is to install requiring drilling holes etc. What is required to install?

This item does come with it's own snaps that do have to be installed. So some drilling is required.

I own a 21' and a 17' skiff. Both have standard bimini tops. I live in Florida and this seems like a great idea for those unexpected thunder storms. Once the hardware is installed how easy is it to pop on the shield? I wouldn't want it attached all the time. Can you purchase additional hardware to move it from boat to boat? I don't really understand how the bottom attaches to the boat. Lot's of questions but I've been thinking about how to attach a clear shower curtain for emegencies. The rain hurts when you are full throttle trying to get out of the lightning.

                  A:

The shield attaches around the bimini top's tubing with nylon straps at the top of the shield and at the bottom for maximum adjustably for many different boats. You simply put the long end of the strap up through the first side of the buckle and down through the second side of the buckle and pull the strap tight. You need something that you can wrap the straps around at the bottom of the shield. Very easy to get on and off, and the straps are attached to the shield so there is not other hardware needed to take the shield to a different bimini top.
