I've read reviews saying that this device doesn't work. You are doing it wrong. There weren't any instuctions with mine and I thought the same thing. I was playing with it trying to figure it out and I saw a small hole in the side. I blew gently into it and it scared me so badly that I dropped it.
It is very very loud once you figure out how to use it. It takes very little breath to produce a huge sound. I wonder who came up with this brilliant little idea...

If you expect to depend on it to alert others at any distance that you've fallen overboard or need assistance you're in big trouble.
A total waste of money.

Comments about Unified Safety Blaster:
You usually blow a whistle from the end. This has a blow hole on the side making it difficult to find and blow. Strange design.

Comments about Unified Safety Blaster:
The last time I bought one of these from Overton's it sounded like the Queen Mary was about to run you over, but this one sounds like a mashed cat by comparison.
It is still useful, but a bit disappointing to us showoffs.

Comments about Unified Safety Blaster:
This will replace the whistle. It is much louder than a whistle. This is different as you blow into the side not the end.

Comments about Unified Safety Blaster:
I needed to have a backup to my very wimpy horn and thought this would be a good choice. When it arrived to my door step, I tried it and and it's loud. I took it down to my boat and tried it again and it failed. I finally figured out that the diaphragm needs to be tight for it to make a sound. That is not covered in the instructions. This is a good non-powered backup needed by any boater.

Comments about Unified Safety Blaster:
I've had mine for years. I'm a 'little old lady' who is occasionally on her own. I take it to bed with me when that happens. My neighbour knows if he hears it during the night - and he would if I blew for sure and so would the entire neighbourhood - to come running. Every old lady (even young ones who live alone) should have one. It's the biz! They could do with wider advertising - not just for boaters.

Comments about Unified Safety Blaster:
I've had two of these for decades. They're so loud that I have to warn my passengers. If the thin plastic diaphragm fails, just cut a new piece from any plastic bag. It meets CG requirements and then some. It can't rust. It has no appendages to break off.

I have had one for many years as a spare to my boat horn. The orginal ring broke but I can get that one to work with tighting but a new one costs so little I give them as presents

It's loud. It kinda sounds like a duck call. I would use it for most dogs are not used to loud noises.Answered on 6/5/2012 by rub a dub dub from Lake Keowee, SC
