Comments about Rapala Countdown Hard Bait - CD09 Series:

The CD series is best for casting. Other rapalas have better action but the countdowns do the job and will get you further out and deeper down. I use them while shore fishing for brown trout and have had success with the cd7 in natural colors. Would not recommend in real grassy/weeded or shallow areas as you will be catching more misc. things and not fish. Fished properly it will catch quality fish, it has become one of my main lures for browns and has done well for bass and larger rainbows as well. I would recommend it.

Comments about Rapala Countdown Hard Bait - CD09 Series:

The number 5 countdown is my go to lure for crappie. Cast these next to the weedline and you will have a blast. Although I have lost a lot to pike. The number 7 countdown works well for Walleye in the spring casting from shore.

Comments about Rapala Countdown Hard Bait - CD09 Series:

I am an avid Susquehanna River rat who has been throwing these for close to 30 years with a very high success rate. I primarily fish for Smallmouth Bass including river Bass tournaments. I primarily throw the CD9 and for the river 90% of the time it is the gold black back color. The only other colors of these I throw are silver/black & silver/blue.
I have also had great success catching Walleye on these.
The best type of water I've found for getting production from these lures is between 2-8 feet deep with a hard (preferably rocky) bottom in fast to very fast water. I count them down to whatever depth I've judged the fish to be and retrieve them much as I would with a jerk bait.. I use a stop & twitch retrieve, varying both the sharpness and frequency of the twitches along with the retrieve speed and pauses.
In water as I described above this lure is tough to beat, provided there is decent visibility / water clarity.
