Product Description
penn One of the most recognized and accomplished saltwater spinning reels in the world, the PENN Spinfisher is a real workhorse. The PENN Spinfisher SSV builds on that legacy with a full-metal body, sideplate, and rotor plus a water-tight design that keeps saltwater out. Anglers will approve of this reel's sealed HT-100 Slammer Drag System. For rugged durability, the Spinfisher SSV's main shaft is stainless steel, as is its oversized bail wire. Line capacity rings on the Spinfisher SSV are a first for spinning reels. Features a Superline spool. This reel is suited to inshore, nearshore, offshore and surf angling, or, in short, everything saltwater!

Comments about Penn Spinfisher SSV Spinning Reel, SSV6500LL:

This is my second Penn Spinfisher V liveliner plus having a non-liveliner 5500 Penn Spinfisher V.
These are great salt water reels that are "sealed" from the salt and sand. (Okay, so if you crank underwater some salt may get in, but it is the only "sealed" reel for under $600.)
I use the liveliner feature to not only use live bait, but also for two other specific indications.
Throwing from the mouth of an inlet, I can let my line smoothly unfurl as the jig is taken out to sea on an outgoing tide - free from worry of creating a "birds nest" that I might get from a conventional reel or from just opening the bail on a spinning reel - especially fishing at night.
The liveliner feature also lets me park my rod/reel in a rod holder on the beach without having to set my drag ridiculously light, or fear having a breakoff or watch my rod/reel disappear into the surf if a monster striper takes the bait.
(I use the liveliner feature on my lighter 4500 Spinfisher V LL when trolling in my kayak for the same reason.)
I became a real fan of the Spinfisher V 5500 in the surf swimming plugs in the spring, impressed at the smooth line feed and effortless rewind. (Thanks to all at stripersonline who posted and raved about this innovative reel, getting me to buy my first one.)
