Well made
This winch is overkill for my 16.5' alumacraft. It is rated twice what the original winch was. But it works great, and feels very sturdy.

The product was easy to install and matched the existing bolt pattern on the trailer. The handle bent the first time I used it. I ended up scavenging the old winch and using my old winch handle which was significantly better. After about 15 uses I have noticed the gears are rounding quite a bit but the winch is not yet slipping. The product is made in China and the metal used is sub-grade. I would recommend this product for a smaller boat or PWC. Make sure you use a good safety chain, as the product will likely fail after continued use. This product is not acceptable for my 21' Chaparral.

Comments about Overton's Overton's 2,000-lb. Dual Drive Trailer Winch With 20' Strap:
Installed the winch and used it the first time 2 weeks ago. It worked great unloading the trailer but the spring for the latch came off when reloading the boat on the trailer and was lost to the lake. They are paying for shipping since it is within the first 30 days but I have to drive 2 hours to the lake, take it off, ship it back and wait 5-7 days for a new one. Not the most convenient thing to do during spring bass season. They were very friendly in customer service and Ashley was great to work with.

Q:
What does the 3 to 1 or 4 to one mean on a trailer winch? Which one makes it easier to pull out a 1986 19ft mastercraft with a flat bunk trailer? Which winch do you recommend?Asked on 7/25/2011 by Tom from Vancouver, WA1 answer
A:
This is the gear ratio. The higher the number, the lower the gear and better winching ability with less effort. The lower the number, the higher the gear which translates to faster winching but harder to winch under load.Answered on 3/29/2012 by Sparky from Raymore, MO
Q:
I have a 20 ft I/O V hull boat and was wondering what size winch would I need?Asked on 6/1/2011 by Jeff from Pasco, WA1 answer

A:
The rule of thumb is using a winch rated at 50% of your boats total weight, (For example, a 4000lb boat would require a 2000lb rated winch at minimum.) If you have a bunk trailer or frequent shallow ramps I would use a winch with a heavier rating. Also, dual drive gears tend to spread the weight across the winch better than a single gear.Answered on 8/16/2012 by Gregg from Toledo Ohio
