Product Description
Enjoy better operating speeds, improved visibility, and greater stability with the economical Nauticus Smart Tabs SX Series. The one-of-a-kind Smart Tabs system is speed-regulated, requiring no operator adjustment while underway. The system uses a nitrogen gas actuator which stabilizes your boat without the use of hydraulics or electric switches. The amount of "lift" provided by the actuator is determined by the load rating and trim plate adjustment done at the time of installation. The system can be specifically tuned to maximize the performance of any power boat, and tracking ribs have been added to improve handling at higher speeds. Smart Tabs can be assembled in seconds and installed in minutes - the only tools required are a drill with a 3/16" bit and a Phillips screwdriver. Molded composite construction offers rust-free, corrosion-free protection. With smoother, faster acceleration, 40% less bow rise, and a 35% lower plane speed, Smart Tabs SX are the ultimate trim tab system for skiing and tubing. |

Comments about Nauticus SMART TABS SX Series, SX9510-60:
I installed Smart Tabs SX9510-60 on a 16 foot fiberglass boat powered by a 60hp Yamaha 4 stroke motor. The boat has two batteries in the stern and an additional 6 hp trolling motor on the transom, as well as a 19 gallon fuel tank in the bow. There were a couple of performance problems with my boat. It had a moderate to severe porpoising problem and could only run with the motor trimmed full down. On absolutely smooth water I could run wide open at nearly 30 mph for very short distances but porpoising would be induced by the slightest chop or wave and sometimes by nothing at all. Porpoising was also a problem at lower speeds in rougher water. Trimming the motor up would induce porpoising almost immediately in any conditions. With two adults aboard hole-shot was acceptable and time to plane was okay, but with three adults aboard it took forever for the bow to break over. I wanted to correct these performance issues and was told by several marina / marine parts stores that trim tabs would not solve my problem. They advised using a whale-tail type device but I was reluctant to drill into a new motor to install it. I purchased the Smart Tabs over the internet and spent about an hour installing them, but half of that time was spent pondering exactly where to place them and measuring precisely to achieve symmetry. The first time out with tabs installed both my fishing buddy and I were immediately impressed by the improved ride...no more porpoising! Steering seems improved as well and the boat seems to handle better although it's hard to explain exactly how. Just smoother I guess. I'm able to trim the outboard up now and top speed is improved a little, maybe one or two mph. Hole-shot and time to plane are better too. I haven't run with three aboard since installation but I'm confident performance will be better when fully loaded as well. I haven't attempted to fine tune the tabs yet and I'm still running with the recommended installation setting and the nitrogen dampening shock in the third hole. I think I'd get better low speed performance with a little less bow-down force applied. Currently, with the initial installation recommended shock settings, and at low speed in two foot waves, the bow seems to bite into the swells rather than ride over them, and steering input is required to correct. I'm sure adjusting the damping shock to the second hole on the tab to reduce bow down force will correct for this minor issue and may further improve top end performance as well. I just haven't gotten around to it yet. So, all in all, I couldn't be happier with the performance improvements I realized through installation of the Smart Tab SX9510-60.

I installed on a 17 foot boat and they work great! Best investment for a boat. The ride is much smoother and the porpusing was limited. I would greatly recommend.

Comments about Nauticus SMART TABS SX Series, SX9510-60:
Units works great. Easy to install. I had severe porposing unless I had the boat trimmed way down to the point of plowing water. I was constantly on the motor trim adjusting it. Installed the tabs, didn't get any extra speed, but wasn't needing it. The boat now rides much better, and up on plane fast without messing with the trim. Much more pleasant ride in the rougher water. These should make slow speed tubing much easlier.
