Q:How do I determine the pitch that I need. This propeller is the one that matches the part number on my aftermarket prop. Should I just go with this? I have a Mariah Shabah 180 with a Volvo SX 4.3L stern drive.Asked on 5/29/2015 by Gary from Veradale, WA
A:Thanks for your question. The pitch needed is determined by the wide open throttle RPM that the engine runs. Volvo recommends a wide open throttle RPM of 4400 to 4800 on your specific engine. If your boat was running in that range with the existing, undamaged, prop then you should keep the same pitch as you have. If you boat was running more or less than that then it may be necessary to go to a different pitch. The lower the pitch the more RPM's the engine will turn. A 1" change in pitch will usually result in a 200 RPM change in engine speed.
Hopefully this is enough information to help you determine the pitch you need but if not one of our product techs can certainly help you select a prop. You can call them at 1-800-334-6541.

Q:Whats the differance between the pitchesAsked on 8/4/2009 by Anonymous
A:You need to know your pitch first and foremost before you ever replace a prop. The pitch determines whether you are going to have a better hole shot or better top end speed. You will have to have your Diameter and Pitch and then we can discuss varying the pitch a bit, but for every degree of pitch down, your WOT RPM's will go up 200. Then will get down 200 with every degree of pitch upward.Answered on 9/22/2009 by Bryant C from Tech Department
