Comments about Sierra Marine Outboard Alternator Rectifier - 3-Post Mercury Rectifier:
Price and free shipping were what prompted me to purchase this voltage regulator from Overtons. I installed the part prior to the last boat run of the season. the installation was trouble free. physically, the part appears to be well made. this is the fourth time that I have replace the regulator in the 15 years that I have owned this boat. the first three replacements were all oem parts. I'm hoping that this one will last longer. Time will tell...

Q:
would faulty rectifiers ( 2 60hp mercury bigfoot outboards) cause no charging of batteries (voltmeters start at 13 and then head toward discharge) and subsequently cause low amps at throttle control of MicroCommander system, resulting in loss of throttle/transmission control? Batteries (3) are new - 1 battery dedicated to generator, 1 to house, 1 to engines, with a perc switch.Asked on 12/22/2009 by Skip from Cumming, Ga1 answer

Q:
Does the Rectifier have anything to do with the charging system?Asked on 5/31/2009 by Eric from Branson, Mo2 answers
A:
Eric, yes the rectifier has alot to do with the charging system. It does two things-1, it changes the alternating electrical current produced by the alternator,to direct current,(that's what your battery is,direct current.)2, it regulates how much voltage can enter the electrical system, and battery in your boat.2 things that I know can go wrong with the rectifier-1,it can let to much voltage enter the electrical system and battery, resulting in over-charging the battery and it can ruin some electrical devices.2,it wont let any current enter the electrical system and battery coming from the alternator, resulting in a dead battery. Most of the time it's the rectifier that goes bad,and not the alternator.MikeAnswered on 6/3/2009 by cutnbeam from Canton OhioA:
