A:GPS is an acronym that stands for " Global Positioning System". The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a satellite-based navigation system made up of a network of 24 satellites placed into orbit by the U.S. Department of Defense and outputs a users location via Latitude and Longitude.
A chartplotter is an electronic navigation system that combines a GPS receiver with the capability to display electronic charts/maps, enabling the boat owner to continuously monitor the position and movement of his craft in relation to the surrounding physical environment, both above and below the water.
