      No. Because the line is two sizes smaller, the rod won't load properly and your casting will suffer.Always use the advertised line wgt. on your rod and sometimes it's ok to go one size heavier, but never lighter.

      You really need to use the same # line as the same # rod.

      You can usually go up or down 1, but would not advise 2. 6 weight line is not heavy enough to load an 8 weight rod.
