Love my Pro 120!!!

By melvisbass

Comments about Sun Dolphin Pro 120 Fishing Boat:

I bought this boat in the spring of 2007 and it has been great!  My son and I fish local electric motor only bass tournaments out of it and it's perfect.  Fits in the garage and is easy to tow!

Comments about Sun Dolphin Pro 120 Fishing Boat:

made a small blind to go on it and now it doubles as a duck baot.. great size so me, the dog and a dozen or so decoys can ride along. works the best in local ponds or small lakes, got alittle conserned putting it out in the bay "just a bit tippy"

      Nice Little Fishing Boat

      By Fishing Fool

      from Livingston, TX, United States

Comments about Sun Dolphin Pro 120 Fishing Boat:

I purchased the Sun Dolphin Pro 120 less than 1 year ago to use on a private lake. I have been mostly satisfied with the boat and all the available options that it provides. The only down sides I have found is that the version that I bought does not have the metal plate over the front trolling motor mounting area. My trolling motor does not clear the front lip of the boat when it is in the straight down position. I currently shim the trolling motor clamp in front of the mount in order to clear the front of the boat. The trolling motor mount compresses and expands with the tension that is put on it by the trolling motor clamp. It would be nice if they would strengthen the mount and insure that it is far enough forward to eliminate the trolling motor shaft hitting the front lip of the boat when the motor is down and in use. It would also be nice if a rudder was added to available accessories. The back of the boat tends to swing easily in a breeze if a motor is not mounted on the back of the boat. Lastly the retainer clips on the base of the seat mounts and pedestals unscrew if you have someone that tend to rotate their seat to the right. I have already had to buy a retainer clip because one unscrewed and fell into the seat pedestal post (unable to retrieve).

      Awesome Boat for 2

      By Renzoni

      from Methuen, MA, United States

Comments about Sun Dolphin Pro 120 Fishing Boat:

Have this boat for 9 years and still holding up. Recommend a 15hp motor to get on plane (up to 23 mph). Taken this boat on a large lake and driven 24 miles in a day. Hold up to big wakes. Boat has trouble getting on plane in strong head winds. Also unsinkable ... left plug out more than once.

Great concept and extremely fishable platform BUT

      By MuskyChimes1

Comments about Sun Dolphin Pro 120 Fishing Boat:

Ok hands down the best American made river boat ive ever used . I put a 15 hp Johnson onto this boat and coupled it with a top tier bow mount trolling motor and I can now fish waters that could only previously be seen from a canoe and I get all the benefits of a real full sized bass style boat . However for what it offers in unique fishing opportunities it gives up in durability and if your thinking youll have a long term boat with this 120 your fooling yourself . Now their are a few things that can greatly help the boat become better . 1st fill the cavity with 2 part expanding foam use 14lb on the transom and filled all the rest with the 8lb . it makes this 5 times the boat it was before I added the foam . the added rigidity and leak prevention was worth the cost of the 2 part foam . So here is where my 4 star review comes from , its a dream to fish out of and its fun to drive even with a 15 hp motor . Every fishing trip is an adventure . I am using this boat for hunting Muskies in river sections that have never seen a bait in their life . It floats over skinny water better then most canoes, stable as much bigger boats are. I think if you plan to use it like I am (hardcore fishing tool, not a toy) I give it 2 full seasons before it will need replacement or major over hall but in that time you can use it to find spots that are better then amazing ! Now in a perfect world Sun Dolphin would listen to me here they would step up and make serious anglers a real fishing boat . If they ever make this boat with a roto-mold like the kayaks they already manufacture they would have the best little boat EVER MADE !!!! So if your out there Sun Dolphin big wigs then PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make sure if you ever make this boat roto style I want numbers 1-3 first off the line !!!!! still even without roto molding its almost a great boat and offers some absolutely fantastic adventures no other boat in the usa can . The first roto mold boat company in the usa will be the next fortune 500 company in that industry !

      • Q:

Is it wired for a foot control trolling motor to use on the front of the boat or is it wired for a rear mount trolling motor?
        Asked on 5/5/2012 by Anonymous

        1 answer

        • A:

Wired for front mount motor, but a foot controlled motor requires an additional part for mounting. Transom mount motors work fine there, as long as you can reverse the control head to accompdate it being in the front of the boat. I don't know this for sure,, as I have not installed the bow mount block, but it might interfere with the built in storage on the front deck. I opted not to risk it and mounted a transom mount motor. There are a few with foot controls, but they seem rare. Great boat so far!

The specs say it is rated for a 15 hp. motor .... However my reading indicates that 7-8 max is recommended. I would personally limit it to 5 hp and if I purchase one I will put a 2 hp. on it.
