Comments about JBL MR-18 Sirius-Ready AM/FM CD Receiver:

This unit is larger than the standard size factory stereo I replaced. Needed to build a special mount to install and I could not use standard cover to protect.

which jbl speakers are right for this receiver MS6100 or MS6200?

        • CUSTOMER CARE

          A:

This unit pushes 45 watts to up to four speakers each. You can use any brand speakers that are rated at 45 watts rms or higher. Item 74475 would not be a good choice because those are only 35 watts rms. If your unit pushes more watts than a speaker can handle it blows the speaker and sounds really bad.

      • Q:

If I have a JBL MR-15, is there any radio that you sell that is i-Pod ready that will hook up to the same MR-15 connectors?

        • CUSTOMER CARE

          A:

Sorry---as radios change, so do the connectors---this is a very common question.
The good news is the installation of a new unit is typically very straightforward---connectors and all.

          No--there is a different
          wiring harness used.

      • Q:

How do I go from a 16 pin (8 X 2) kenwood harness to the 12 pin (3 x4) harness on the jbl?
        Asked on 5/23/2009 by Hank

        2 answers

        • A:

This radio should have come with a wiring harness with a plug on one side and loose wires on the other side. You need to cut out the old harness from the Kenwood and wire in the harnes that came with the JBL.

Cuts should be made with the knowledge that you will need to crimp or solder the new harness in, so you should leave enough wire to have working room. This often means cutting the wires close to the radio/plug rather than down in the dash.
