Used this for several overnight trips with great success. Light lasted quite a while on low setting with the crank recharging it at a decent pace. The attachment and hanging sections worked well withotut adding bulk to the package. Have always used propane lanterns but this has convinced me to give LED technology a chance. The attention to details has left nothing to chance. The charging cord wraps perfectly and stays in place. It's nice to not have to worry about empty tanks and broken mantles. This will be the high water mark other LED lanterns will soon be compared with.

I bought this lantern twice. Yes, twice. The first time I got it from Amazon and the lens had a scuff mark on multiple sides, almost like it had been used before. I returned it for a new one and used it for the first time on the PCT with my son on a quick overnight backcountry trip. I clipped the lantern on the back of my 70L Gregory pack and was very happy with the light output and functionality of the lantern. The folding legs and ability to change the direction of the light output from one-side to two-sides is nice. I agree with the others that the USB cord is a bit short for recharging, but I think it was a design choice, since the lantern is only so large in diameter to have the cord self-store around itself. You're probably wondering, "so what's the problem". The problem is when I returned home I discovered the lantern was hanging lopsided because the metal hanging ring had come out of one side where its held in by the tension of the bent D-Ring shape. The problem is the metal is just to soft to hold its shape and any kind of tugging or pulling on the hanging ring will easily deform it and make it slip out of its sockets too easily. But, the major problem with the lantern is the lack of scratch resistance on the lens. My lantern came back from one trip with lots of scratch marks on the lens and although they don't block the light, they will eventually and it just makes the lantern look low quality and shoddy. Maybe GZ used plastic instead of glass for weight, maybe they used non-scratch resistant plastic on the lens, or maybe they just didn't test this aspect. The result is a great product with poor durability and craftsmanship. Not the usual GZ standards IMHO. For the price, I would have expected more.

Used it for a week of camp, GREAT

By Jim C

from Haymarket, VA, United States

Comments about Goal Zero Lighthouse 250 Lantern:

I only needed to recharge once during a week long usage, using my Venture 30 to recharge. Vary the light direction (full or half) and brightness was a big factor in allowing the battery to last as we were in deep woods with limited sunlight recharge with panels.

Comments about Goal Zero Lighthouse 250 Lantern:

I bought this Lantern for camping, but it works great in my bedroom also. Love the fact it is dimmable, charges from my Nomad 7, and has a battery indicator.

Great little light that's very bright.

Comments about Goal Zero Lighthouse 250 Lantern:

This is a great little lantern for camping. It is small but very bright. I needed something to replace some very old lanterns. I like the dual sided light feature. I do wish they emergency red leds on top could also be a night light for my kids as my old lantern had a night light.

Well made and bright

By Cordystoy

from Carlsbad Ca

Comments about Goal Zero Lighthouse 250 Lantern:

I bought this because I'm a big fan of Goal Zero products, and have several Guide 10s, and a Nomad 7. This lantern is well made and very versatile. It has two modes along with dimming capabilities. Using the light on low power works great and allows the light to be directional. I haven't done any testing on how long the light lasts but I left it on low overnight on a camping trip and it was still on in the morning. The cable set-up is great also.
