We tried a few times in the last 2 years to get my son who is now 6 up on MY OLD training skis...did not work very well, and he ended up scared and lost interest in skiing. But once we ordered these, he was SO EXCITED AGAIN! Ran with him (and his 4 year old brother)in the shallow water and both did great!
My 6 year old could not wait to get behind the boat! Pulled him from the beach, and we were able to go under 10 miles per hour and he stayed up just fine. Even started going side to side a little!
He has gone 5 times now and wants the next level of ski...says he wants to be able to drop one before mommy can!!!
Next up, the 4 year old behind the boat!

Five gandsons from New Zealand visiting for water sports (ages 5-12). The trainer board appeared to start delaminating at all seams after a minimum amout of exposure to water. Green wood? Adhesive NOT waterproof? I am a retired engineer (Boeing) and professional fabricator and I DO NOT believe the adhesive used in the lamination is a reputable, marine grade adhesive. PLEASE FIX THIS PRODUCT OR REMOVE IT FROM YOUR INVENTORY!!! All the grandkids were very disappointed in 'Papa's choice for "ski training".

Comments about Gladiator Ski Trainer:
I bought the Gladiator after my 5 yr old grand daughter mastered and became bored with the EZ inflatable ski trainer. It has been a great second step. She got up the first time, with no help in the water. I like the way she was able to put her feet in the toe plates (not a full binding)by herself. Since the boat is pulling the sled & not the rope handle, she was able to get up very easily. Within moments of getting up she was experimenting with shifing her weight to guide the ski. Really builds confidence. Great as a precursor to trainers with stablilizer bar.

Comments about Gladiator Ski Trainer:
i have a 3 1/2 yr old who has been seeing his older sisters slolom and wants to ski too.
This was the best and easiest way for him to join the fun. the best way to start is straight from the beach or shoreline and have person in boat holding the towline- gives more control that way.

Comments about Gladiator Ski Trainer:
The directions that are included with this product are for other specific skis but not for the Gladiator Ski Trainer so we were not sure if starting on shore was best or in the water. Our grandkids never could get up on it.

Q:
My grandson is 5 & has very small feet. Are the feet openings adjustable?Asked on 7/27/2010 by Stan from Rogers, AR1 answer
A:
no they are not. my son gregory is 4 and had no problem....the backs of the feet opening are open so his feet will just slide right in.Answered on 8/11/2011 by Gregory the water skiier from San Francisco
Q:
In the second question you specify that an extra rope needs to be used to tow the skier. What type of rope should be purchased? Should it be a tubing rope?Asked on 7/29/2009 by Anonymous2 answers
A:
I use a regular water skiing rope. The handle is held by the spotter in the boat and the other end secured to the trainer.
I feel that it is important that the spotter hold the rope because the ski trainer is what is towed not the skier and that way if anything goes wrong your spotter lets go of the handle and the tow is stopped. A water skiing rope works best because you can make it really short so that your little one is close to the boat. I uses about 20 feet of rope.Answered on 8/6/2009 by :) from Montreal, CanadaA:
we used the same rope we use for the tube. The handle/rope is attached so you just need a rope to pull it.Answered on 8/9/2010 by loves lake life from Brady, NE

Q:
Are there special instructions for this ski? My kids could not get up. The board was drowning them. One of my sons knows how to ski and wakeboard and still could not get out of the water on this. Any tips?Asked on 7/6/2009 by Anonymous from Waverly, KY2 answers
A:
We found that for the younger kids (3-4 yrs old) it was beneficial to start from shallow water and have 1-2 people help hold the ski on top of the water with the child already fully standing so the instant the boat took off they where skiing.
Problem is when the water comes rushing at skier they seem to forget/struggle to stand up but since that is part of skiing at any age/level we did not see it as a con but just something that needed to be worked around in the beginning until they had more confidence and knew that once they stood up the water would stop.
Might also try shortening the handle length some so they are not putting as much pressure on the back of the ski and have less of a distance to be fully standing. Dont give up and good luck.Answered on 7/13/2009 by Dad from Fort Worth, TXCUSTOMER CARE

A:
This product is rated for up to 85 lbs. We would suggest a pair of the Junior combos skis such as item 14134 or 12623, which are rated for ~ 125 lbs. These have the cross bars which really help out with first time skiers.Answered on 6/8/2009 by Michael from Overtons
