Unfortunately Gerber made this machete and the full sized version without a full tang blade. That makes it easy to break the machete at the handle if it is swung with too much force. It works good for cutting brush and small trees but I wouldn't use it on anything of any real size.
Also mine was dull right out of the package, both the blade and saw teeth. I sharpened the blade and fixed the angle of grind on most of the saw teeth to make it cut like a machete is supposed to cut. The steel is well tempered and holds its edge for a long time.
If it was full tang I would regard it as highly as the military issue machete it was going to replace for me at work. But since I rely on a machete quite a bit at work I only use this one hiking and around the house.
