Open the valve and wait about 5 minutes without weight on it. If you desire a firmer pad add a couple of puffs of air after inflation. Recommend using the self inflating feature as much as possible because the more you manually blow it up, the more moisture from your breath enters the pad, which is not desirable for several reasons.Answered on 8/28/2010 by Hossenpfeffer from mn
