This product was exactly as discribed

I kept trying to make my own bouy to save money. But in the long run it would have been cheaper and easier to buy this bouy in the 1st place.

I purchased two of these mooring balls last fall for a couple of sailboats that were continually being scratched by the top ring of the standard round mooring balls I generally use. I thought I would experiment with one first and so replaced only one round buoy. a very small amount of ice tore that buoy off the eye and destroyed it even though all of the surrounding round balls were unaffected,(I am talking about more then 10 surrounding balls). I thought that due to its shape it was simply extra susceptible to ice and even though I'm in the south and our ice is very light and has never required removing a classic round buoy, it would be best to remove these early and replace with a winter buoy, and so this spring I deployed the second buoy. it lasted about two weeks before it slowly began to sink for no apparent reason. it gradually began to fill with water and after another week it had completely sunk. There was no reason for this, it was not hit or damaged it simply leaked and contains no additional floatation. Don't waste your money! These buoys are junk! my old round buoys have been floating for years with no problems, these lasted two weeks each.

Comments about Dockmate Mooring Buoys, 15" dia.:

Floats a large heavy chain very well. My mooring is in about 15' of water and my previous mooring balls barely float above the surface. The blue stripe on this one is well above the surface and is easily visible from a distance.

When water is lowered I can no longer keep boat at dock so I have to moor offshore. Live on a manmade lake that regulates the water and gets low at the end of summer

Can this bouy be left in the ice over the winter?

                • A:

yes if on a lake or still water. absolutely not if in a tidal or current situation. the ice will get under it and pull the bolt and eye right through. the first freeze last winter in relatively thin ice got under the large, squared-off bottom of the ball and pulled the eye right through it.
