Product Description
dockmate Dockmate Mooring Whips are an excellent way to protect your boat or watercraft from damage caused by wind or high wake. These whips provide a "safety zone" between dock and boat with a unique "spring action" that keeps your boat away from the dock. The large diameter solid fiberglass rods are wrapped with cross-wound layers of fiber for superior strength and flexibility. The durable solid cast-aluminum base has a molded-in cleat and ring to easily fasten your lines. A functional roller tip on the whip in addition to a unique tensioner allow easy one-hand operation. All Dockmate Mooring Whips come as a pair with all necessary lines and hardware to complete installation. Note that some docking conditions may be too rough for this type of system. 3-year warranty.

I have the 8' premium whips for my 18' Monterey FS. It is mounted on a floating dock in a cove that gets used quite a bit. I hated seeing my boat rock and roll against the fenders whenever a wakeboarder came by. The whips do hold it away from the dock although it will still rub the fenders every now and then, but it is MUCH better now.The instructions on hooking up the lines and tensioners need better photos, not line drawings. I have only had them installed for a week, so we will see.

Comments about Dockmate Deluxe Mooring Whips, 8:

I found the installation very easy. I quickly realized however the length of ropes provided is not sufficient for use with my jet skiis when you have a dock like mine that is 4 feet above the water. Having seen this from a post I read before purchasing the mooring whips, I purchased a 100 ft length similar rope to replace the shorter ones provided.

I also rigged the boat differently. I used a SS latching hook at each end of the boats, and ran both the mooring and whip lines to the same hooks. In that way I only have two hook points for each jet ski... plenty good for the conditions they will experience.

In addition, I realized how difficult it is to secure the mooring lines when you can't reach the jet ski hooks from the dock... so now I am adding a lower dock (4' x 24") along side the existing one that is closer to the water.

Finally, I have a recommendation for all purchasers. The screws provided to secure the fiberglass whips to the cast base can be easily dropped into the water. I drilled a 3/32 hole in the screw turning tab, put a large SS fishing line swivel through the hole, and then secured the screw/swivel to the base with a plastic coated SS leader. Now I can freely turn the screw and if it comes out the base will not fall in the water.

we used these whips to secure our jet skis and they are perfect, they replaced mooring poles which we didn't care for. we are on a busy part of a lake and the lines on the mooring poles just wore out from all the wave action, but the jet skis just ride the waves very nicely with the mooring whips.

Can these be mounted to an aluminum dock? Would it be the same installation? Or a different method or hardware required???

The installation process would be the same but you might want to consider using a carriage bolt instead of the lag bolts that are supplied with the package. If you have any further questions, please contact our tech department at 1-800-334-6541

Should work fine as long as you have the proper attachment points and are within the correct weight capacities listed.

As long as you have cleats on the Cat that are at least 3/4 the distance apart from the total lenghth, it should work fine.

They would work fine. I have a friend on the lake using these same whips on a 23 foot catamaran. He's used them the last two summers and never has had a problem. He also bolted them through his dock instead of using the wood screws they provided.

I would at least recommend item 74608. The extra length will allow for the system to work properly, if not you will constantly adjusting the mooring whips due to wake/wind.
