I researched for quite some time and was dissatisfied with I what I thought were the only dock ladder options out there. I did not want a dock ladder that stuck several feet in air when not in use....ugly. I did not want a ladder that had pins to pull and wires to get tangled in. This ladder is large and sturdy. It is hinged and folds up out of the water when not in use, but still has a reasonable profile on the dock!

Only giving this a three star rating because it does not match what the description says. Will have to wait on how well it works for some warm weather.

Bought this for use on our Pontoon Boat based on the specs that are in the description. It looks like what I bought but unfortunately three of the four dimensions in the description are incorrect so I really hope it will work when we get our boat back in the water this spring.

Things to note:

1. Vertical distance between steps is not 12" as stated. The first step is only 8.5" from the deck surface and the remainder of the steps average 11" so instead of the bottom step surface being 48" below the deck level it is a little less than 42". Bought this to replace the OEM ladder as it only gets the bottom tred at 32" below the deck making it difficult to get on the boat.

2. The extension from the inner corner of the ladder onto the deck is only 10" instead of the 15" stated so hope I can position it to avoid the steering cable.

3. Handrails are only 15.6" high. Not the 18" in the description. Might be an issue when older people are trying to use the ladder to get up from the water.

Otherwise the construction looks good and I look forward to trying it when the warm weather is back.

We purchased this ladder for our floating dock and it is great. Love the wide steps which do not hurt when climbing out. Love how it folds up so it is out of the water when not in use and not collect the slim. Come winter will just unhook and store till spring

We installed this ladder on our floating dock in order to climb in and out of the lake. It is great with the wide steps. We like how it is out of the water when not in use so as not to collect crud. Come winter we just unhook and store it until spring time. I would recommend.

Comments about Dockmate 4-Step Folding Dock Ladder:

My Wife bought a lake house with a floating dock. She likes to swim, and the dock was not set up for easy entry or exit from the dock. this works very well, although I do not have easy access to the underside of the dock, so I had to attach it with screws, rather than the provided nuts bolts, and stack some washers under the attachment hooks to get the alignment right; but that was easy. Folded up, the treads are out of the water so lake scum wont grow on them. the hinges a a tad stiff, and I may loosen them some, but you don't want them too loose, or it may self deploy. I like the two rails, getting in or out of a kayak off the dock was very tricky. have not used it for kayaking entry yet, but the two rails should help. The wife has been swimming seberal times and is very pleased with the steps.

the folding design is GREAT for lifting a portion of ladder out of water onto the floating dock. Neighbors who have the type that remains in water has problem with 'Green water slim' coating the steps.

Yes. This ladder comes with footman loops and installation hardware. You can see the hardware kit that is included by looking at item 778514. These mount to the dock and then the ladder hooks under the loops to attach. The ladder can be easily removed by tilting it up and releasing it from the loops.

                  A:

This folding ladder only comes in a 4-step version which will extend approximately 4 feet from the top of the dock. We have a non-folding version that can flip up and release for easy removal and it comes in a variety of sizes from 3-step to 7-step. See link below. The 5-step of this version will extend approximately 5 feet from the top of your dock which puts the first step of your ladder very close to the bottom of your lake. Keep in mind that the ladder mounts to your dock and does not need to extend to the bottom. It only needs to be deep enough so you can reach the bottom step while pulling yourself up the ladder.
