we use this for entering the boat after skiing, tubing or swimming. it's a good design of high quality. i have used one of these on another boat for years. the only thing that i would recommend is that the platform be bolted to the transome of the boat instead of using the lag screws that are provided with the platform. this may require some cutting and the installation of an access hole cover to accomplish but its worth it and requires only basic tools.

There is no bar on one side because of the outboard motor being there. The I/O detmar platform has a bar on both sides of the platform.

Does this come with mounting hardware? If so, does it all bolt entirely thru the transom ? Does any of it need access to the inside of the hull for a backing nut where the handle attaches? Does the step swing up or is it stationary?

I purchased this product last year and never found time to install it. Pulled it out this year and can't fiqure it out! My problem is the curved handrail part. When held against the transom (which is verticle, with the tabs on the end facing down as shown, the upper part of the handrail is five inches from the transom. The only way to make it contact the transom is to pitch the platform at a 20 degree angle towards the boat! Help!

You will have to make that call. It is made for transoms with outboard motors, but you would need to size you boat up and make the call.
