Comments about Panther T4 Through-Tilt Tube Electro Steer For Saltwater Use:
I bought this unit to steer my 15 horse 4 stroke kicker on a 24 ft. Thompson. The unit worked great at first, but after 3 or 4 trips out it quit working. I monkeyed around with it for about 5 minutes and it started working again. It is very sporadic when it wants to quit, and start going again. Not good when you have 4 riggers, wire and lead core hanging off the back of the boat. The quick disconnect fitting has braoken twice on me now. I replaced it the first time, but after that I made a heavy duty one at the shop as I am a machinist. Overall I love the thing when it works, and once you get the hang of it it is very easy to control the boat, even in Lake Ontario 4 footers. The big problem is, you never know when it is going to quit on you, so you. When itdoes it makes a total mess of your lines. I feel lucky that is all it did so far. I can't wit to pull the boat this fall, and design an outdrive to kicker rod so I can get rid of this thing for something reliable.
