The down scan imaging is awesome, compared to my two older fish finders. I find it very easy to interpret. Mounting to the transom however, the bottom gets lost after about 13 mph. Through previous experience, I expected this to happen. I didn't use it as a replacement, but as a supplement to what I had. When I run on step, I only use the gps, and use my old depth finder mounted beside the elite 5 dsi for depth. When running slow or fishing, it works great.
I live and fish in Louisiana, which has as many bayous, rivers, and canals as it does roads. The map program on this unit omits a huge amount of navigable waterways, and the available mapping upgrades are just barely any better. Even though it shows me running across land half of the time, it does show a trail of where I've been, so if I get lost I can follow the trail back to the boat landing.other than wishing someone would create a topo map chip for this unit, I love it so far.

I was excited about the new combination GPS/FF/chartplotter till i realized that the chip included in the box with unit wouldn't fit the slot!! Used the megar installion guide to install the unit and was pleased with the display. Unit was supposed to track the depth at speeds up to 40mph? I lose signal at 15 to 20mph. Trolling under the bridge and unit never displayed the bridge (not very accurate).

Comments about Lowrance Elite-5 DSI Fishfinder/Chartplotter Combo:
Very happy with product , price, and condition of package. Unhappy with installation instructions. I had to do some online reasearch regarding NMEA connection to my VHF radio. Installation instructions were poor- had to figure most of it out myself. Unhappy that required fuse holder and line were not included with wiring. Also NMEA cable was not included.

Comments about Lowrance Elite-5 DSI Fishfinder/Chartplotter Combo:
The detail of the bottom is amazing. The screen is bright even in bright sunlight. The base map that comes with it has excellent bathymetric contour lines, no need to buy additional maps.I think the people that gave it bad reviews just dont know how to set the unit.

Comments about Lowrance Elite-5 DSI Fishfinder/Chartplotter Combo:
While I have not had a chance to use the unit yet but it appears to be easy to use and interpret. It would be nice if they included more detail on interpreting sonar readings in the user manual but I'm sure I'll figure it out once I get it out on the water.
