This Transom Saver works perfectly for me. It was easy to install (drill one 3/8" hole), easy to adjust and is easy to put on and take off.
Includes everything you need to install and use. The rubber strap included was too long to fit tight on my 115 Merc so I bought a shorter one (12") for $1.25.
The mechanism that allows easy on and off also works to hold the motor down.
I wish I had installed this item a long time ago BEFORE I noticed the cracks in my transom.
This holds the motor steady and transfers the weight to the trailer.

I have over 40 years experiance in Maintenance and Engineering so I know my way around a wrench. I installed this item per the instructions. It is a simple installation. The unit has ample ability to be adjusted to fit various motors. After having trailered my boat on 1 1/2 trips totaling no more then 2 hrs the strap broke. This strap is the key component in anchoring the motor to the support bar. Upon examining the strap I noticed that the strap was embossed with warnings which included the following "Not for Highway Use". I don't know about you but I trailer on the highway. This strap poses a safety issue. The manufacturer needs to upgrade to a better strap. I have since purchased a more durable strap which is performing well. Even so I don't expect this new strap to last more then 1 season before needing to be replaced.
It is now more then 14 hours of use since I installed this unit. I notice that the rubber cushion that fits between the motor housing and the fork on the support bar end is beginning to come out of the fork. One end of the cushion is attached to the fork by a bolt. I will epoxy the other end of it to the fork in an attempt to keep it in place. This end can't be bolted to the fork since it fits around the front edge of the motor gear case.

A:
My trailer is for a Lowe boat. It mounted to the frame very easily. It turns out that on my trailer, there is a 3/8 inch hole drilled thru the frame vertically. With the toter, there is a fairly heavy steel piece that is designed to bolt to the frame. It has a 3/8 inch hole thru it so everything worked out fine. The oval receptacle hole for the toter is built into this steel piece and is slightly offset so that the toter does not block the center rear lights that are on these wider trailers nowadays. I am using it to support a 90hp Mercury motor. Of course, if you did not have the hole already drilled in the trailer frame like mine was, then it would not be a great big deal in my opinion to drill one. Hope this helps.Answered on 3/23/2010 by fishingsocprof from Apache Junction ArizonaVERIFIED BUYER

Q:
How can I get a replacement for the v-shaped rubber piece in the bracket that fits against the motor? It broke at the end of last season (less than a full season of use) while trailering (fortunately no damage to the motor casing) and I can't use it anymore without replacing the rubber. Please advise....Asked on 5/4/2009 by Tony S from New York1 answer
