The Coleman Quad lantern provides a very convenient and safe source of emergency lighting. The body is molded plastic with a strong design and able to survive the casual bangs and bumps while camping or surviving a superstorm such as Sandy. Using 8 D-size batteries makes this lantern both safe and relatively inexpensive to operate, especially in environments (like an apartment building) where traditional fuel-fired lanterns would be considered potentially dangerous or prohibited.
The lantern throws a white 360 degree beam of light that is bright enough to perform general tasks in an average sized room but is not bright enough to read by. The great feature of this lantern is the modular design of the light panels which can be snapped off the main body of the lamp and used as a seperate torch. I was impressed at how much light these individual panels emit; one can read by the light produced from one of these panels, once detached from the main body. A panel provides a servicable, mobile worklight for working on equipment or underneath a motor vehicle without the limitations of an electric cord or fragile (and hot!) light bulbs.

I purchased this lantern to be used when the power goes out at my house, which is fairly often. Took it out of the box, added the batteries and turned it on. The light from this lantern is great and I really love the fact that you can take the individual lights off of the base and carry them with you as you walk throughout the house. I will also use this light on my camping trips. Should be great inside a tent where you can take off one light for outside activities and still have the main light for inside.

The best thing about it is 4person can use this @thesame time,as a lantern or flash light.We use this 3night in a row and I don't have to replace the batteries excelent product!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I use this lantern while camping. Doesn't get much better then this. You can have it as bright as you want, just take off a side or two for less light. A bit heavy but the individual sides are lightweight and easy to take off and put back on.

This lantern is the bomb!! We bought it to illuminate our 4 stall barn at night (it is new and we haven't run power to it yet) and boy, does it deliver! It is heavy...with the 8 D batteries, but each individual light doesn't weigh anything at all. It is extremely powerful with 6 LEDs on each of 4 lights. The best part: the 8 Ds charge the individual lights! I didn't realize that when I bought it, but that is easily the coolest part of this lantern. When we get out to our barn, each person takes a light and goes about their chores. It would be perfect for a family camp, with lamps able to go in a variety of locations.
