I have used this radio in Open field and heavily obstructed situations, and it was only restricted by obstructions, but not completely. While driving in the neighborhood I could call home from 2 miles away in heavy obstruction and traffic in a closed truck.

Not so great
Radios went off frequency, unable to connect to each other after almost no use and one-and-a-half years after purchase.
Buy Motorola radios and live a good life.

Comments about Midland® GXT1050 Walkie-Talkie:
I used these radios to help find my cousin that gets lost everytime we enter the woods. I could talk to him and figur out were he was by describing the area he was in to me.
I love the fact that these radios come already to go. All I did was put the batterys in place on the charger for a few hours and then off I went to the woods. And they worked great!!!

I HAVE ABOUT 18 ACERS AND NEED TO BE ABLE TO COMMUNICATE WITH MY WIFE . RADIOS WORK GREAT , CLEAR SOUND NO MATTER WHERE I GO . I EVEN DROVE TWO MILES FROM HOME AND EVEN BEHIND HILLS AND WOODS COMMUNICATION WAS NOT A PROBLEM. I THINK I MADE A GOOD CHOICE .

Comments about Midland® GXT1050 Walkie-Talkie:
Bought these when they were on sale, radios are clear and loud head sets that come with them work great also, I'm not sure about the range have not used them more than a mile a way and at that distance they work great. I know it says 36 mile distance ? If you NEED something that will work at 3 plus miles buy a CB radio if you are like me and need a good quality radio at a mile or less these will work great.....I really like the fact it has weather on it have used that often, this radio will do all sorts of things I just use it as a two way on hunting and hikes..
