Comments about Tie Down Engineering Jet Rail XL Watercraft Lift - 980-lb. capacity:

Have two. Installed on bulkhead at lake, which is 18" from water when high, and up to 24" when low.

We choose lifts as they are the most aesthetic...no poles or ugly protuberances as seen on other lifts. Very compact, doesn't block view of lake.

It is easy to clean and maintain ski on lift.

BUT, it takes alot of muscle to pull our 3 seat Yamaha Cruiser VXs on the lift. You can order a longer winch handle from the factory, which I recommend. Although there is no end to their complaining, my teenage daughters and wife can winch them up (total time, about 2 minutes).

I installed a pulley system for helping to move the assemblage down the the rail, if you try to push the ski itself, it often would slide down the beds and then get hung up at the pivot point.

There is some fine tuning you have to do to position the ski on the rail so that it pivots at the right point. But isn't difficult to figure out.

Bottom line, when I'm 80 it is unlikely I'll be able to use it, but at the current time, is the best value and most aesthetic.

Comments about Tie Down Engineering Jet Rail XL Watercraft Lift - 980-lb. capacity:

My jet ski is at the top end of the weight capability of my XL rail. It takes a little practice to get it to work just right, but I am happy with the product. I don't know of anything else that would function like this one does. I put marks on the rail so I know just when it will start tipping into the water, and marks on the winch strap so I know just how much to reel out.

In my boathouse this is the only lift that would fit. Others may find this is the only lift they can use based upon their floor plan. If so, go for it.

Comments about Tie Down Engineering Jet Rail XL Watercraft Lift - 980-lb. capacity:

Winch needs to be larger in order to pull heavier PWC's out of the water - which will make it easier.
Holding line moves to one side and causes one side of the line holding the PWC to shred. Down the road that will need to be replaced.
But overall for the cost it works.

Comments about Tie Down Engineering Jet Rail XL Watercraft Lift - 980-lb. capacity:

The rollers inside the rail must be lubricated before your fist use. My rail stuck with ski aboard. (2003 Yamaha 800 XLT - dry weight 710 lbs.) Winch pulled ski to nose stop, but bunks and rail stayed put. Half of bunks exposed at rear. A larger winch would be nice, too. Out of breath, but in fairness, probably caused by dragging the ski across bunks rather than rail rolling with ski aboard. Also, mount the rear (the water edge) through the deck floor into a piling top, if possible. Or, reinforce the deck floor. A lot of weight is placed on the rear pivot and mount (16 inches wide) as the ski is at 45 degrees. The positive attributes are: the size- it fits where others will not; [...]

Yes, mine is installed on a floating swim dock. Floating is ideal because the height above the water line stays the same.
Tip: Do NOT lubricate the carpet bunks (with silicone spray etc.) as this will cause the PWC to slide too easily and not allow the support to slide.

                      A:

According to the manufacturer: The Jet Rail XL can be mounted to a floating dock provided the dock has the structure, capacity and stability to support the loading and offloading of the PWC. You should contact the dock manufacturer or builder regarding the mounting of the Jet Rail XL to your dock.

I'm looking at this product for a 14 foot aluminum boat, and I'm wondering if its up to the task. The boat is only 300 lbs and it has a 25 hp outboard that weights less than 150. Will the lift handle a long craft and will the weight of the motor at the far end cause problems?

                    Thanks, Dave

                      A:

                      From the manufacturer:
The Jet Rail XL was not designed or tested for use with craft types other than PWC’s in the weight range listed for the unit.

In addition, the combined weight of the boat and engine may not have enough pull weight for the winch to operate correctly.

                      A:

The PWC sits on a cradle similar to bunks on a trailer. The cradle rides on rollers that are mounted to a frame which is mounted to your dock. The cradle pivots as the PWC is raised or lowered using the hand winch. The Jet Rail can be mounted to your dock using thru bolts.
