I bought these for my ski boat which has the Perko fender clips. My ski boat has a longer than normal gunwall, so the 90 deg curve on the bumper works perfect in protecting my boat.

However my freeboard at the stern of the boat is very low (~5"), so the fender ends up in the water. Because there is so much bumper that hits the water it ends up floating, kicking the bumper out to the side, or even completely dislodging it from my Perko clips, it doesn't protect nearly as well as the front. If they made one a bit shorter I would have rated this the best bumper for my boat.

I purchased 8 of these last year for a total cost of around $200 and installed them on the sides of our pontoon boat. I went to air them up this spring, 2 had small holes in them and 1 other had a loose air valve. As a result these 3 would not hold air and function as they should. 3 out of 8 fail in less than a year for [$] a bumper cost is not acceptable and shouldn't have happenned. Keith

Comments about Taylor Made Low Freeboard Boat Fender:

I have a nice little fishing flat bottom boat. The docks at my current lake sit up high so the edges of my boat fit right under the docks and scratch my paint off. I bought these to throw over the edge of the boat to save my paint and of course use as fenders. So far so good. Does a great job and I am very pleased with them. Only bought one set to "try em out" will be buying another set.

yes, we have EZ-DOCKS and they work great for all boats, have been using them for 6 years

              A:

You can, but not sure how well it would work for you. These are designed for use with fender line. I would recommend our dock fenders (item 73613) which are the same price and should work better for what you are trying to do.

          • Q:

I have a 21' runabout for which I need fenders and lines. I have seen and used the Taylor Made (or similar design) low freeboard fenders and they seem to work well. These as well as the Dockmate ones get good reveiws. My qeustion regarding all of them is, what is the "inflatable" all about? I have had fenders in the past that were sealed and non-inflatable. Once they are inflated, do they stay inflated? How does one inflate them; using a pump like for bicycle tires and balls?
THANKS for your help with this. -leo

              A:

Leo - The fenders have a small inflation valve like any of your sports balls (soccer, football, basketball). You can inflate them with a standard sports needle and any type of pump. The inflation allows you to adjust the amount of cushion the fender provides and adjust the pressure over time. They do stay inflated but like anything that is exposed to varying temperatures the pressure will need to be adjusted periodically.

Inflate or deflate with a needle as you would a basketball.
