I've read the previous reviews and wondered why this was not good for a larger dog. We have a Golden who is approximately 65, 70 pounds. She loves the water and this was the greatest thing for her. We showed her how to use it and she loves it. We are, however, since she uses it so much, we're going to put non-skid treads on the steps and also, when you are affixing it to the swim ladder, we use extra velcro on our swim steps. that seems to secure better than just what came with it. But on the whole, I would highly recommend this product!

Doesn't extend out and deep enough for larger dogs to get a good 1st step up from the water.
Not as stable as I had hoped. Due to the short steps my dog kept falling back into the water which stressed her as well as all of us. Also, very slippery, needed some grip pads or something.
Problably would be best for smaller breeds. I have a Labrador who loves the water, but she didn't like using this!

Comments about Paws Aboard Doggy Boat Ladder:
Poorly made with a design that has been modified over time when a clean sheet would have been better when changing components. The hinge has two fiddly plastic clips to hold it so it doesn't fold. These fall off and sink ($10 per pair replacement from pawsaboard). To prevent this there is now a pin on a lanyard to insert into each clip to stop it coming loose.
The adjustable stay is fine, but comes undone as the ladder twists as the boat rocks with passing wake and it has to be reset to one hole position so the ladder will fold. The legs to go on the swim platform are well designed with a rope to operate a mechanism to release the pawsaboard from the ladder, but why supply extra velco straps to secure the legs to the ladder?
I have emailed Pawsaboard and told I had an old model (NOT supplied from Overtons, but a European retaler)they will upgrade for another $100.... and they couldn't tell me what the improvements were (Correspondence available).
