Bought this because it was getting harder and harder for me to get up on my competition slalom as I age and put on a few pounds. This ski is a breeze to get up on, fun to ride, and not at all tiring. I haven't skied so far so easily on a slalom in years. If you are still trying to run the course and cut like crazy, this likely isn't for you, but if you want a fun, leisurely ride that doesn't wear you out, this one fits the bill.
One thing to be aware of, the photo in the catalog and on the web site shows that there is a velcro wrap around the front boot that allows you to get a nice, snug fit, but that is not present on the ski I received. The boot that comes with it is adequate since most users will not be cutting up too much. I do wish the velcro wrap was on it because my old slalom had it, and it really makes for a good fit.

Really like the ski and is nice to ski with. Definately makes it easier to come up! Quick and easy turns as well. I was disappointed that the second time out the front binding came off the ski. I was just putting my foot in to start wasn't a hard crash or anything. For the price and name of the ski I was disappointed with the quality of the binding.

Comments about Connelly Pilot Slalom Ski with Adjustable Binding and Rear Toe Strap:
Love this ski. We had the Big Daddy, and loved it. Added the Pilot for some of our smaller family. I weigh 240 and love the performance. Very good turning ability. Taught my ten year olds to slalom this weekend on this ski. Very versitile.

Comments about Connelly Pilot Slalom Ski with Adjustable Binding and Rear Toe Strap:
At age 65 I was starting to struggle getting up on one ski. I purchased the Pilot to compensate. It has worked great. I pop right out of the water with no strain. The ski rides very nicely, and though it doesn't cut as well as my narrower ski, It still gets the job done.

Comments about Connelly Pilot Slalom Ski with Adjustable Binding and Rear Toe Strap:
Very pleased with this ski, had previously only had success slalom skiing on Connelly Big Easy, so was nervous about going to a smaller ski but wanted to progress. Was able to get up on Pilot on first try behind boat I'd never skied behind, with a driver that hadn't pulled a skier in 20 years! Very pleased with ski; able to easily get up and make nice cuts. Great purchase.

Comments about Connelly Pilot Slalom Ski with Adjustable Binding and Rear Toe Strap:
I was not able to test this ski because the binding is so small. I wear size 11 shoes.
I sent the Connely Pilot back and got an Obrien Sequence slalom ski (and love it).

Comments about Connelly Pilot Slalom Ski with Adjustable Binding and Rear Toe Strap:
I bought this ski when kids and grandkids were all coming to visit us on the lake. The width of it made it easy for the younger ones to learn on. The older and more experienced ones enjoyed it as well. It proved to be a good all-around ski for our beginner, intermediate group.

Purchased this ski for my sister who was having a hard time getting up on my smaller skis. We all tried the ski at the lake this year and thourally enjoyed it. The ski is remarkably maneuverable for it's size. The easy adjustment of the front binding made it easy for everyone to enjoy this ski.

Q:
Exactly what size shoe does L/XL fit in women's sizes? I wear a size 9 1/2. I weigh 170 & am 5'9". I've had a hard time getting up this year. I think I need gloves because I'm losing my grip too. I hate to spend all this money and still not get up, but I've been skiing for years.Asked on 8/25/2011 by Anonymous0 answers
Q:
I'm 5'9" and 190 pounds, looking to buy a slalom. I skied a Connolly Concept for many years but am looking to try a wider ski. Considering the Pilot, Sequence and Outlaw. Am I right in thinking the Outlaw is a hybrid, wider but still has some performance elements and the Pilot and Sequence are easier deep water starters?Asked on 4/4/2011 by Steve from NY1 answer

Not sure about the Outlaw or the Sequence but I recently purchased the Pilot and thourally enjoyed it. I skied competition slalom in college and I really enjoyed this ski. Everyone in our group at the lake was able to get up and enjoy skiing with the Pilot.Answered on 8/6/2011 by Wakeboard from Reno, NV

Q:
i am switching over from combos to wider slalom ski so i can get away from dropping a ski ...still struggle to get up on one ski...i am 6"1 180lbs...would the connelly pilot be better(easier for getting up on one ski) at 475 vs the smaller 425...Asked on 8/21/2010 by Anonymous1 answer
A:
Yes, at 180 pounds, the extra surface area of the 475 is recommended. It is also longer than the 425 and therefore more stable for someone over 6 feet.Answered on 8/11/2011 by robsterbator from laguna beach, ca

Q:
My wife and I are interrested in buying waterskis and are looking into either the Big Daddy for me and the Pilot for her or perhaps just the Pilot for each of us at the different lengths. I am 6'6, 215lbs, she is 5'10, 170lbs. Can you help me understand the lengths we would need, and the advantages of either the Big Daddy, or Pilot for me. My wife has some back problems, but is quite good at skiing. Thank you.Asked on 7/25/2009 by Steve from Napa CA1 answer
CUSTOMER CARE
A:
Both the Connelly Pilot and Big Daddy are great for consumers that want to put fun back into waterskiing. Connelly was the first company to start making shaped skis. The difference between the Pilot and Big Daddy is really only size. Otherwise the shapes are similar. The Pilot in the 475 size is what I would recommend for your wife, she is on the boardline between the sizes, but make it easier for her with the longer length for easier starts and less strain. For you, the Big Daddy would be the best choice (the size of the skis is a measure of square inches. The Pilot is 475 square inches and the Big Daddy is 550 square inches, so you can see the difference in surface area). The Pilot would be quicker turning, but harder to get out of the water and would have less surface area, so more drag behind the boat. The choice is a matter of how athletic and agressive a skier you are. The Big Daddy would be much easier for your size. Enjoy.Answered on 8/3/2009 by The Crew from Overtons
Q:
How long is this ski? 475 sq in vs 425 sq in doesn't tell me much.Asked on 7/20/2009 by kansasdeb1 answer

Connelly lists all there shaped skis square inches not length.
They advise a 425 for under 180 lbs and the 475 for over 180lbs. Hope this helpsAnswered on 1/21/2010 by overtons tech from greenville
