I am not a swimmer. We took a vacation to the Caribbean and were in the water a lot - swimming, snorkeling, etc. I wore this belt and never had a concern for my safety! It was lightweight, comfortable, and I forgot I had it on! I am not sure how well it will work back in the states in lake water but intend to find out this weekend!

Nothing wrong with the manufacturer; its belts in general. Hit the water skiing as a kid and the impact stunned me. The belt slipped down my waist to my thighs and held me floating; but upside down with my feet in the air. Someone jumped in and flipped me over until I regained my senses. No wonder belts are NOT coast Guard approved. Use a vest.

We purchased these so we didnt have to wear out ski vest to float around. extremely disappointed as the belt holders ripped in the first couple of hours. we would not recommend purchasing these
